At the end of 2017 the largest number of households with foreign background lived in the Mellunkylä and Vuosaari districts. The share of such households was highest – almost one in four - in Jakomäki and Mellunkylä, followed by  the Vuosaari (19 %)  and the Vartiokylä (17 %) districts. Tenure status of households with foreign background varies with district, and reflects the general tenure structure of the areas.

State-subsidised housing, which is the most common tenure form among households with foreign background in general, is dominant mainly in eastern and north-eastern Helsinki. Non-subsidised rentals are most common in the southern and central Helsinki.
